September 22: As you know, teachers and students can access our broadcasts and special videos with a couple clicks of the mouse. Anyone who is on our school network can get to this website, find the video of their choice, and be watching within seconds. This allows classes to watch at their convenience and also for students to catch up on any episodes they miss. In the last few years we have put full games on the sports page and highlights of concerts, assemblies, plays, and other activities on the site, as well. We have some ambitious goals, but with everyone working together, we can make our site a go-to place for entertainment and information. We have to begin the year running because sports are already rolling and there are already some breaking news stories. Let me know if you are interested in being a filmer for sports, concerts, or field trips. A responsible film person will be able to travel with the teams and will get full game video as well as pre and post game interviews when appropriate. Have a great day. Have a great year. Oh, by the way, if you want to keep up with the lessons we do each day you can find them here: Period 5 and Period 6 September 22: Well, once again it is the beginning of another school year, but this one is much different than the past. We have a larger class this year and a roomful of rookies, so we will have some challenges. Malu and Kenny are our only veterans, so they will be helping out early on with any questions you might have. I hope you all had a good summer. I look forward to a great year and hope you do as well. CVCS Today will be up and running as soon as we get all the preliminary and necessary skills out of the way. I am anxious to get started, and some of you will be jumping right in on some things, but we need to get the rookies up to speed first. So strap your camcorders on tight and get ready to impact Camas Valley in some positive ways. Let's shoot for the first week of October for our first broadcast. How the rest of the school will see the broadcasts is still up in the air, but we will proceed as usual. We have several weeks to get some important things in order. Remember, this is a class for the self-disciplined and self-motivated. Work hard and you will have a great time!! Today we will be going over some of the important to-knows for this year. Be patient. Good things normally take some time. Have a great 2020-2021, Go, Hornets.! December 14 & 15: This week we will be doing a lot of filming with our four camera shoot for the Christmas Program. Several of you have volunteered to man cameras at the event. Thanks. We need to get the whole thing edited and put on the website and on DVDs before we leave for Christmas break. It will be a challenge, but we can get it done if we work together. To make things a little harder, we have a shortened week because the program is going to be filmed during the school day. Every computer should have someone working at it every day. At this time we have a few of you who are doing a lot more than your share of the work. Thank you. Students, please keep track of your time in both filming, editing, planning, and writing. If you filmed, interviewed or edited, write it down and write down how much time you spent. If you have filmed outside of the school day, please write down the time you spent. If you get a chance to do so, look at our past CVCS Today broadcasts to see the kinds of stories we have done and can do. Our broadcasts and your notebooks are instrumental in determining your grade. Remember, in the job market it is not how much you think you work but how much you actually do work that matters. "The smallest deed is greater than the grandest intention." December 9 & 10: Well, we have a big day next Tuesday so I am going to need a lot of help. These are the kind of events that can get you a lot of points. All day Tuesday the music program will be performing he Christmas program in the gym. Today, I would like to know how many of you can help out and what times you would be available. I will try to get here early on Tuesday to help set up, but it would be hard for me to operate all four cameras. We need to get the concert put together by Thursday the 17 so it can go on the website and we can make quite a few DVDs. By the way, when filming concerts make sure you have your headphones and check audio and other settings very closely. We had one concert in the past that recorded no audio. Getting that concert on the website was really a challenge. If you say you can help out on Tuesday, make sure you show up. Expecting help and not getting it is the bane of every employer. If you want to have jobs in the future be a FAT worker (Faithful, Available, and Teachable). Be the same thing in this class!! December 7 and 8 Only two more weeks until Christmas break, so many of you have a lot to do. Please check your folders to make sure you have all of your assignments up to date. Also be sure to send me a link to download your folder. Also send a copy to Mason and Riley who will be putting them together for some broadcasts. It would be nice to have some studio reporters to introduce each story, so if you are up for that, please let me know. That it a very good way to get a lot of points. Because so much of this class is independent work time, it is imperative that you keep your notebook, calendar, and folder up-to-date. Just saying you have done things is not enough. This is a team effort and much of you grade depends on your contribution to the team. If you have lost track of assignments that are due, you can always check this site and the Planbook site. Have a great week! December 2 and December 3: Our first broadcast is done and on the website. Thanks to Mason and Riley for putting this one together. We have also put last year's senior interviews on as well. Kaycie is finishing up the 2020 graduation and a few others are working on the Eighth Grade Graduation. Here are some other stories that can be done in the near future: The new lights and improvements to the football field. Voiceovers- Veteran's Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas Upcoming Christmas program PSA We should be able to do two or three more broadcasts before Christmas break Everyone should be adding things each week. When you get a chance, make sure you check to see if you folder includes all the work you have done. We have at least seven assignments you should have done at this point. Also, take a look at the two papers taped to the wall above our computers. They will give you valuable information on terminology and ideas for stories. It is time to get the creative juices flowing. Let's make every CVCS Today better than the last. Finally, some of you have abandoned your notebooks. Remember that is one of the methods I use to determine your class time production. Keep it up!! November 30 & December 1: Interviewing Presentation: Click here for notes on interviewing. There are a lot of things to do today. We have to get all assignments done this week as I will not be taking any of the seven assignments after this week. We also need to get all interviews done of new teachers and November Students of the Month. We need to get all our projects on google drive oby the end of week. Here is the assignment of the Week: Pick one of the following FCPX skills or iMovie skills and look up tutorials on YouTube. Learn to do that particular skill and be ready to use it in a video before Christmas break. Also you should be able to explain the technique to the rest of the class on the computer up front. Here are the choices: FCPX. 1) split screen (shots side by side) 2) Multicam editing 3) cloning yourself. 4) Picture in Picture 5) Green screen iMovie 1) Picture in Picture, 2) green screen. 3) Adding a pointer to video 4) Split Screen 5). Adding unique text . So much to do, so little time; let's get to work (I don't have a rhyme.) November 24-25: Boy do we have a lot to do, so please take all your plans and put them into action. Check out the daily announcements everyday and you will hear possible stories calling your name. Watch the news, listen to your friends, talk to parents and just keep your ears open. If you are looking for stories, these are good places to start. Be sure to check out the inspiration sheets on the wall between the windows. There are suggestions there on how to dig up good story ideas. November is almost gone and some of you have to make more contributions if you expect a decent grade this semester. If you don't add stories to the weekly broadcast, you need to be making short films, PSAs, or longer videos instead. Remember, this is Video Production, which means there should be production of video and if there is no production of video, there will not be a good grade in Video Production. Just sayin' We will discuss the possibility of doing an abbreviated broadcast one day a month. This shorter broadcast would be mainly news, announcements, schedule of events and one feature. It would be about 10 minutes long or less. This would allow us to keep ahead of the longer broadcasts the rest of the month. The advantage of this is that a couple of students could put this mini-broadcast together and others would be free to start on the following broadcasts and/or larger projects such as short films, PSAs, or documentaries (which tend to take a lot of time). We could determine the talent each week and those two students would be responsible for the entire broadcast. They would be the producers, writers, and talent for that one broadcast. Everyone else could concentrate on different things. Think about the part you would like to play in all this. |
